A GST registration is one of the first steps in setting up a business in India, and if that application gets rejected in the first place, it is downright dooming for your dreams. But it doesn’t have to be that way, because you will get another chance to apply for revocation of the cancellation order within 30 days from the date of the cancellation order.
You can always seek the guidance and support of MPVD & Associates at this stage. Our responsibility towards our clients is to educate them so that they can make conscious and confident decisions. That is why we have put together the answers to the frequently asked questions about rejections of GST registration applications. Read on to see if it resolves any of your queries.
Why Does Application for GST Registration Get Rejected?
The majority of GST registration application rejections are caused by inaccuracies or incorrect information on your GST registration form. It could be anything, such as:
- Insufficient proof of identity
- Your address not matching your ID proof
- Your PAN not matching your address
- Misspelt terms.
- You fail to respond to or fulfil the GST officer’s notice seeking clarification on documents or information
If the GST registration application lacks all of the required documents or information, the GST officer handling the application will issue a notice requesting additional information, or clarification, or new documents that match your other credentials. If the officer is not satisfied with the clarification, the application can be properly rejected. That is why applicants must be very serious and organised when applying.
What Happens If Your GST Registration Application Is Rejected?
Fortunately, you can fix the mistakes in your application and reapply. You must submit the FORM GST 14 as your amendment application, along with the corrected documents and other data, such as corrections in name, trade name, and so on, as specified in the notice.
The updated application will be assessed again by the GST officer to continue the verification procedure. If your documents and data fulfil the requirements this time, the officer will authorise Form GST REG-15 within 15 days. You can also discard the amendments and submit a new application. In this case, you will have to wait for the final rejection after you receive the notice, which could take up to 10 days.
What Happens If There Is A PAN Error While Filing an Application for GST Registration?
Because GST registration is PAN-based, an application for an Amendment of Registration cannot be filed for a change in PAN. If your PAN changes, you must submit a new registration application. You must reapply for registration using Form GST REG-01. The application filed in GST REG-01 may be refused, and the order will be issued in Form GST REG-05.
