Company Registration in India Is Not Compulsory At The Starting Point of Setting Up a Homemade Food Business

While it is not compulsory, it is much more beneficial to have company registration in India. But you can start simple. Most home-based food businesses start with a single person, from the kitchen, using regular grocery items.  Now, if you are serious about bringing your talents and skills into service, you need to focus on one thing at a time. The first things you need are to get accustomed to the process of a supply chain, maintain hygiene, and be compliant with current legal guidelines.

  • FSSAI Registration: choose from basic, state, and central licenses, based on the outreach as a food business operator (FBO). If you are looking to start as a small-scale cloud kitchen, supplying in your locality or different parts of the city, then you are good to go with the basic license.
  • GST registration: While you don’t have to pay GST right from the first order you supply, volunteering for it will give your business more legal recognition.
  • Sole proprietorship firm registration: Registering as a sole proprietor gives your business legal recognition without a formal company registration.
  • Shop and Establishment Act License:  This license is mandatory for most businesses in India, especially if you are hiring a helper as an employee. If you operate your home-based food business alone or as a family or friend group, then you may not need it. Different states have different regulations, so research according to your needs. You can also talk to us at MPVD & Associates.
  • Environmental Clearance: With the prevalence of home-based food businesses in India, environmental clearance has become more serious nowadays, which checks the smoke emissions and waste disposal guidelines for large-scale food production. The license is given by the State Pollution Board.
  • Signage License: This license gives you the right to use a brand logo and advertise your products. You need to obtain this license from the local municipality along with the NOC document.

You can start your business with the above prerequisites and keep the company formation as an afterthought. You can have a complete online company registration in India with step-by-step guidance with the assistance of MPVD & Associates.
